These pristine lakes hold great religious significance for Hindus, who believe them to be favored spots of Lord Shiva. Gosainkunda itself attracts thousands of pilgrims each year, especially during the holy Hindu festival in the fall. The tranquil beauty and spiritual aura of this sacred site make it a truly unforgettable destination on your trek through the Langtang region.
Today involves crossing the challenging Laurebina La High Pass to enter the scenic Helambu region. The trek begins with a descent from the lodges to Gosainkunda lake, followed by a steep climb along the northern shore towards Laurebina La Pass. Along the way, you'll pass several small lakes before reaching the marked pass adorned with a stone stupa and prayer flags. After the pass, the trail descends through a wide valley to High Camp (4240m), then further down to Phedi. From Phedi, there's a demanding ascent to Ghopte where you'll spend the night.
The trek begins amidst juniper, rhododendron, and pine groves, leading to the tranquil setting of Tharepati. Descending gently through forested slopes, you'll pass a meadow with shepherd's huts and enjoy views of Gangchempo and Dorje Lakpa peaks. The descent becomes steeper as you reach Magin Goth and eventually descend to Kutumsang, passing through Kuala Bhanjyang along the way.
The trek ascends briefly before descending to Gul Bhanjyang village. Climbing up, you'll reach a dusty road at Thorong Danda and continue to Chipping village. Dropping down steadily, you'll pass Pati Bhanjyang before reaching Chisopani, renowned for its panoramic mountain views.
After a short walk from Chisopani, you'll reach the Shivapuri National Park checkpoint and descend through the park. Passing water reservoirs and large pipes, you'll arrive at Sundarijal where you'll bid farewell to the trails and take local transport back to Kathmandu.

The Gosaikund & Helambu Trek is moderate challenging, suitable for spiritual adventure over with a moderate level of fitness. Trekkers typically walk 5-6 hours per day, but no prior trekking experience is required. Doing some cardio or leg-strength exercises beforehand will make the trek easier and more enjoyable.
The trail includes stone steps, ascents, descents, and uneven paths, but no technical climbing skills are needed. The main challenge is adjusting to higher altitude, so proper acclimatization, hydration, and rest are essential.
With basic preparation and the right mindset, most trekkers successfully complete the trek and enjoy its breathtaking mountain scenery and rich cultural experiences.
During the Gosaikund & Helambu Trek accommodation is in tea houses or lodges with basic but comfortable rooms, shared bathrooms, clean bedding, and warm blankets.
Meals are provided at teahouses and include local and international options such as dal bhat, noodles, pasta, vegetables, and meat dishes. Vegetarian options are usually available.
For drinking water, carry water purification tablets or a filter, as tap water may not be safe. Bottled water is available at some lodges, but using a reusable water bottle is recommended for sustainability.
Health and safety are a top priority on the Gosaikund & Helambu Trek. Our itineraries include acclimatization days to prevent altitude sickness, first-aid kits are carried, and emergency evacuation is available if needed.
Key considerations:
Altitude sickness: The trek reaches over 4610m (15125 ft). Gradual ascent, rest days, and hydration help prevent acute mountain sickness (AMS).
Weather: Himalayan weather is unpredictable. Dress in layers, carry waterproof clothing, and wear sturdy footwear for changing conditions.
Trail conditions: Expect steep ascents, rocky paths, and river crossings. Use trekking poles for stability and follow guide instructions.
Hydration & nutrition: Drink plenty of safe water (use purification tablets or filters) and eat balanced meals/snacks to maintain energy levels.
Sun protection: Strong UV exposure at high altitudes requires sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Reapply sunscreen regularly.
Emergency preparedness: Be aware of evacuation procedures. Carry travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and medical emergencies.
By following these precautions, trekkers can safely enjoy the stunning Himalayan scenery and cultural experiences while minimizing risks.

The best time to trek to Gosaikund & Helambu Trek is during Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November), when weather is stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are spectacular.
Spring: Mild temperatures, clear skies, and vibrant rhododendron blooms along the trail.
Autumn: Dry weather, excellent visibility, and comfortable daytime temperatures (nights can be colder at higher altitudes).
These seasons also reduce the risk of rain, landslides, and avalanches. While trekking is possible in summer or winter, expect rain, snow, colder temperatures, and more challenging trail conditions at higher altitudes. Always check weather forecasts before your trek.
The itinerary serves as a guideline, but may be modified due to weather, health, or unforeseen circumstances. Safety is always our priority.
While some flexibility is possible, the trek completion schedule must generally be maintained. Guides will recommend the best alternatives to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while staying close to the original plan.
