Overview

The Dhorpatan–Maikot Circuit Trek is a remarkable 13-day journey through the remote mid-western hills of Nepal, combining stunning Himalayan scenery with rich Magar culture. Graded as moderate to difficult, the trek explores the little-known Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve and the traditional homeland of the Kham Magar people. Starting from Dhorpatan, the route ascends across the scenic Phalgune Pass (3,915m), offering panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Gurja Himal ranges before descending to charming villages along the Ghustung and Sano Bheri rivers. The trail continues through the twin villages of Taka and Shera, known for their unique architecture and warm hospitality, before looping back to Dhorpatan via the Uttar Ganga valley.

This off-the-beaten-path trek offers an authentic rural experience, featuring local teahouses and homestays that provide an intimate look into Kham Magar traditions. While snow can occur from December to January, the trail is best enjoyed in spring and autumn. Access is typically from Beni to Darbang, followed by a scenic and occasionally rugged approach through terraced valleys and forested ridges.
