The 7-Day Upper Mustang Overland Group Tour offers a unique journey into the heart of Nepal’s mystical “Forbidden Kingdom.” Traveling overland from Pokhara or Kathmandu, the tour takes you through the rugged landscapes of Mustang, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, deep canyons, and desert-like high-altitude terrain. Along the way, you will visit ancient gompas, Chhoser cave monasteries, and sacred shrines that reflect the region’s rich spiritual heritage.

Itinerary

Your journey begins with a scenic drive westward from Kathmandu to Pokhara by Private vehicle. The route follows the Trishuli and Marshyangdi rivers, offering views of terraced fields, rolling hills, and glimpses of Himalayan peaks. On arrival in Pokhara, check into your hotel near Phewa Lake and enjoy a relaxed evening at leisure.

Note! For traveler starting from Kathmandu, we provide complimentary airport–hotel transfers for foreign guests (whether you’ve booked your hotel independently or through us). If you are joining from other cities or border points, the meeting point will be Pokhara, where our representative will receive you at the airport or bus station and assist with hotel check-in (after 12:00 noon). On request, we can also arrange your domestic flight or private vehicle to Pokhara. In the evening, your trekking guide will meet you at the hotel lobby for a detailed trip briefing, followed by a short orientation walk to explore the local surroundings.

Embark on an exhilarating journey today as we drive to Lete village in Mustang, immersing ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure along the way. Our route promises to be filled with scenic vistas, charming villages, and rugged terrain that will leave us in awe.

 

Our first stop will be at Nepal's highest suspension bridge, offering us a thrilling experience as we traverse across the gorge, surrounded by majestic mountains and the rushing waters of the Kaligandaki river below. Next, we'll explore the mystical Gupteshwor cave, home to a mesmerizing single fossil and fascinating rock formations that speak volumes of the earth's ancient history.

 

For a rejuvenating break, we'll visit the soothing Bhurung Tatopani hot spring, where we can unwind and soak in the healing waters amidst the serene surroundings. As we continue our journey, we'll be treated to the awe-inspiring sight of Rupse falls cascading down rocky cliffs, a testament to the raw power of nature. Throughout our drive, we'll be following the banks of the Kaligandaki river, with towering rocky mountains providing a dramatic backdrop to our adventure.

 

Finally, we'll arrive at the picturesque Lete village, nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of Mustang. Here, we'll spend the night, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of this beautiful village and reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of the day.

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive and sightseeing tour of various villages, including Tukche, Marpha, Jomsom, Dhumba village with its charming tiny lake, Kagbeni, and Ranipauwa. Our vehicle will transport us roadside, and we'll explore each village on foot, immersing ourselves in their unique cultures and landscapes.

 

Throughout the journey, we'll be treated to stunning views of Mt. Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Tukuche Peak, along with the breathtaking scenery of the cold desert surroundings. Compared to yesterday's drive, today's journey promises to be more comfortable and enjoyable.

 

Upon reaching the Muktinath vehicle station, we'll embark on a 30-minute hike to visit the sacred Muktinath temple and its surroundings. After offering worship to Lord Vishnu and Jwalamai, we'll return to our hotel for lunch.

 

Following lunch, we'll drive to Kagbeni, a historical village known for its fortified layout, characterized by houses built within a common rectangular outer wall with just three small entrance doors. From there, we'll continue our drive to the gateway of Upper Mustang, the Chhusang Valley, where we'll have the opportunity to delve deeper into the region's rich history and cultural heritage.

After a hearty breakfast, we set out on a picturesque drive to Lo-manthang, the heart of the ancient Kingdom of Lo. Our journey takes us through several enchanting villages, each offering glimpses into the rich cultural heritage of the region.

We pass through Chele village, crossing Taklam La and Dajong La, before continuing to Samar, where we traverse Bhena La, Yamda La (4010m), and Syangboche La. The scenic drive takes us through Ghiling, where we cross Ny La (4020m), and Ghami, passing over Ghami La (3765m) and Tsarang Choya La (3870m).

We pause for lunch at Tsarang, enjoying a delicious meal amidst the breathtaking surroundings. After lunch, we explore the picturesque Tsarang Village, with its ancient Tsarang Monastery dating back to the 13th century.

Finally, we continue our journey to Lo-manthang, arriving in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and take some time to refresh ourselves. Then, we embark on a sightseeing tour of Lo-manthang village, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Lo-Manthang Palace, Jhampa Gompa, Thupchen Gompa, and Chhyode Gompa, each steeped in the rich history of the forbidden kingdom of Lo.

As the day comes to a close, we enjoy a delicious dinner and settle in for a restful overnight stay at our hotel, ready to continue our exploration of this ancient and mystical land tomorrow.

After breakfast, we embark on an adventurous journey to Kora-La Border, situated at an elevation of 4660 meters (15,284 feet). Please note that only Nepali citizens are permitted to visit the border area.

Upon reaching Kora-La, we take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes before proceeding to explore the charming village of Chhoser. Here, we delve into the rich cultural heritage of the region, visiting the renowned 700-year-old Shija Jhong cave. This remarkable cave features a main entrance (Dhoka) and five stories with 75 rooms, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient life in the region. Additionally, we visit Nirphu Gompa, adding to the spiritual essence of our journey.

After completing our sightseeing in Chhoser, we return to Marpha Village. it takes 4-5 hours drive. Overnight in Marpha.

In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner at a fine restaurant in Kathmandu. This special occasion is a chance for us to express our gratitude to our guides, whose expertise and companionship have enriched our journey, as well as to the office staff whose behind-the-scenes efforts ensured the smooth execution of our trip.
