Overview

The Arun Valley–Silicho Peak–Panch Pokhari Trek is a hidden gem in Eastern Nepal that blends pristine nature, rich culture, and panoramic Himalayan scenery. Nestled between Solu-Everest Region and Makalu-Barun National Parks, the Arun Valley is one of the deepest valleys in the world—offering a quieter, less-traveled alternative to the Everest and Makalu base camp routes. Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, the trail follows the Arun River through terraced farmlands, lush forests, and traditional Rai, Limbu, and Sherpa villages.

Trekkers explore the Arun Vally, holy Salpa Pokhari Lake (3,350m) and hike to Silichung Peak (4,156m), which rewards breathtaking 360° views of Everest (8,848m), Makalu (8,463m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), and many other Himalayan giants. The route continues to Panch Pokhari (4,345m)—a serene cluster of five glacial lakes revered by the Kirat community for their spiritual significance. The trail winds through vibrant rhododendron forests, cascading waterfalls, and abundant birdlife, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike.

This trek offers a rare blend of adventure, wilderness, and authentic cultural encounters, far from the crowded trails. It concludes with a descent to Sotang and a scenic drive to Phaplu before returning to Kathmandu. Perfect for trekkers seeking peace, cultural depth, and Himalayan grandeur, the Arun Valley–Silicho–Panch Pokhari Trek is one of Nepal’s finest off-the-beaten-path experiences.
