Trip Facts

Overview

The Bhairav Kunda Trek, situated near the Nepal–Tibet border in the Langtang Region, is a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and spirituality. This trek pays homage to the sacred alpine lake Bhairav Kunda, where “Bhairav” represents the fierce form of Lord Shiva and “Kunda” means pond.

Despite its close proximity to Kathmandu, the trail remains peaceful and pristine, offering trekkers an escape into untouched Himalayan landscapes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of mountains such as Madiya (6,275m), Phurbi Ghhyachu (6,637m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), and the Jugal Himal range, while also exploring the Tamang, Sherpa, and Newar cultures.

The holy lake is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists, and Shamans, who visit to bathe in its waters and worship at the nearby temple of Lord Shiva. On your return, you’ll encounter charming Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests that add cultural depth to this journey.

This trek is of moderate difficulty, making it suitable for both spiritual seekers and adventure lovers. The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November).
