This 11-day adventure is not just a trek - it is an emotional escape into silence, spirituality, and raw natural beauty that stays in your heart forever.
The Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek takes you into the heart of the remote Dolpo region, one of Nepal’s most isolated and culturally preserved areas. The trail begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, then to Juphal, followed by a scenic walk through deep river valleys, dense pine, oak, and fir forests, and traditional mountain settlements.
As you move deeper into the region, the landscape transforms dramatically - from subtropical greenery to dry, high-altitude Himalayan terrain. The highlight of the journey is Phoksundo Lake, a turquoise alpine jewel surrounded by cliffs and sacred monasteries.
This trek offers a rare blend of natural beauty, wildlife (musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan tahr, and even snow leopard territory), and ancient Tibetan-influenced culture that remains untouched by modern life.

Flying to Nepalgunj offers a swift and comfortable journey, taking around 50 minutes, ideal for those prioritizing time efficiency and convenience. However, it may come at a higher cost and require additional arrangements for ground transportation upon arrival. Conversely, driving by private car or jeep allows for flexibility, scenic stops, and a more immersive experience of local culture. While it may be more time-consuming and less comfortable, especially on rough roads, it can be a cost-effective option, particularly for larger groups. Ultimately, the choice depends on individual preferences regarding budget, time constraints, and travel preferences.
