The Nagarjung Jamacho Day Hike is one of the popular short hikes easily accessible from Kathmandu Valley. Situated at the elevation of 2100 meters, it is one the best choice on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley to take a quick break from the bustling city and to walk in the wonders of nature.
As part of Shivapuri Nagarjung National Park (the only National park that is in Kathmandu Valley), Jamacho hiking can be a perfect hike for the nature lover. It goes through the wilderness of the woods protected by the Nepalese Army. There are also cemented steps that are developed for hiking. While walking through the woods you could hear the melodious chirping of birds as well as may encounter wildlife.
It takes about a half an hour drive to reach the spot from the hike starting point. Hiking begins near the Balaju bypass, also known as the Phulbari gate where we have to get National park entry ticket. After getting the entry ticket at the gate, one can start hiking. From the top of Nagarjun Hill where there is Jamacho Monastery, we can see magnificent view of entire Kathmandu valley and jaw dropping mountain ranges from east to west. Annapurna Range, Manaslu Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa are the major mountain ranges can be seen from the top. The Jamacho monastery, religious and historically caves, national park, flora and fauna are the major highlights of the hike.
In the early morning at 7:00 am we will meet at our meeting point. Then drive to Phulbari gate near balaju bypass which will be our starting point of our hike. It takes ½ hours to reach Phulbari Gate. Since Jamacho is a part of Shivapuri Nagarjung National park we have to take our entry tickets. Our guide will help you to get your entry tickets.
After getting entry tickets we will start our hike walking through the cemented steps that are developed for hiking. During the hike, one can feel a peaceful state of mind in a natural setting and enjoy the vibrate melodies of the birds and animals throughout the journey. It take around 3-4 hours to reach the top & 2-3 hours to decent down according to the walking pace of a person. Similarly, after reaching the top we can visit to Jamacho Monastery. You may also see several Buddhist monks paying their homage at the top of a hill in a monastery.
Nagarjun-Jamacho hiking is also well known as the best place to meditate. A view tower near the monastery offers a view of Kathmandu valley at the bottom and a magnificent view of snow-capped mountains such as Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Jugal, and Langtang to the North on a clear day. After visiting Monastery and clicking picutres we will take a rest & eat our home packed lunch/snacks and energized yourself for the decent. On the way back down we will take the same trail to Phulbari Gate where our private vehicle will be ready to take you back to your hotel/home
