Rainaskot, Lamjung: A Cultural Hilltop Destination with Himalayan Views

Rainaskot is a beautiful hilltop village located in Lamjung District, Nepal, at an altitude of 1,700 meters. Known for its rich history, warm hospitality, and stunning mountain views, Rainaskot offers visitors a peaceful rural experience combined with cultural heritage and adventure. From this vantage point, travelers can enjoy panoramic views of 18 Himalayan ranges and landscapes stretching across 16 districts of Nepal.

Rainaskot holds great historical importance in Nepal’s early history. In the 15th century, the area was ruled by Drabya Shah, who later became king after winning the famous race at Ligligkot.

The village is surrounded by ancient forts and religious sites, including Kalika, Koteswhar, Mahadev, and Thanimai, which date back to the 14th century. These landmarks reflect the region’s strategic and cultural importance in the past.

After the devastating earthquake, 14 traditional houses in Rainaskot were rebuilt with the support of American national Natasha Wajniyak, who donated NPR 20.75 million. These houses have been converted into well-managed community homestays run by the local Gurung community.

The homestays can accommodate up to 84 guests and provide a comfortable stay with warm hospitality. Guests are served organic, locally sourced meals, including:

Rainaskot is famous for its breathtaking views of the Annapurna Range, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and many other peaks. Visitors can also enjoy wide views of valleys, rivers, hills, and surrounding districts such as Kaski, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi.

Sunrise and sunset from Rainaskot are especially memorable, offering golden Himalayan panoramas.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, tented camp accommodations were introduced mainly for domestic tourists. These camps offer:

While tented camps are ideal for budget travelers and adventure groups, they do not provide proper beds, private bathrooms, or full meal services like homestays.

Local buses are available, but may require a 1-hour hike from the main road

From Dumre, follow the Barangkhola route uphill

Take a local bus to Sailitar School Chok

Continue by bus to Panthadanda

From Panthadanda, hike for about 1.5 hours to reach Rainaskot
